The most commonly asked question from anyone planning on visiting Georgia is, ‘Do I need a visa?’
The good news is that, in the majority of cases, the answer is probably going to be ‘No’. Georgia has one of the most liberal regimes in the world, which is definitely a major reason as to why Georgia’s tourism industry is expanding so rapidly.
Here is a list of the major countries that have no visa requirements for visitors to Georgia:
All European Union member countries
All Gulf Cooperation Council member countries
Russian Federation and all former CIS countries
All of North America
Much of South America
Australia, New Zealand and South Africa
Japan and South Korea
Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand
Israel, Turkey and Iran
If your country is covered by the list above, then congratulations! You just need to turn up at the airport and get a stamp in your passport at immigration. You are then allowed to stay in Georgia for an entire year.
If your country is not on the list above, then don’t get too disappointed as it’s still fairly easy to get a visa to enter Georgia. You will, however, need to apply for an eVisa online before entering the country. This is a fairly simple and inexpensive exercise and avoids all the hassle of having to visit a Georgian Embassy.
Here are the countries for which citizens are required to obtain an eVisa in advance:
India
China
Egypt
Most of South East Asia
Most of Southern Africa
eVisas issued to citizens of these countries are usually valid for trips of up to thirty days.
There are just a few countries requiring citizens to apply for visas in advance, the main ones being:
Syria, Iraq and Yemen
Pakistan and Bangladesh
Afghanistan
Most of North and Central Africa
